F3A World Championship

This event has its origins in 1953, when the very first international aerobatic competition was held at the Evere Aerodrome, near Brussels in Belgium. The King of Belgium donated a trophy to the Royal Belgian Aero Club, to award to the first winner. Every year thereafter, this international event was staged in the country of the winner of the previous event. In 1958, the FAI Models Commission awarded this event world championship status, and the first world championship in the Radio Control Aerobatic class took place in July 1960, at the Dübendorff Aerodrome near Zürich, Switzerland.

Now countries bid to hold the World Championships and the FAI award the event to the country most suitable, much the same as the IOC do for the Olympic Games.
