An excellent venue made even better this year with better access for visitors into the hall and the temperature was very acceptable as well, so a big thank you to the Metrodome management for their help and cooperation. Thanks to all the organisers for the preparation and running of this event was covered in the round up speeches, but neither could the event be so successful without our enthusiastic pilots, who spend lots of resources practicing and preparing some models especially for this event. Teams are formed and flying routines designed at the event for the team freestyle. Also important is the camaraderie and friendship throughout the competition. We see the top level of precision aerobatic flying along with the not so serious easier schedules and freestyle flying through to our final event of pylon racing where the attrition rate can be high, fantastic effort from all our pilots and thank you for a great weekend. The standard of flying was high in all areas of the event and some final places were separated by only one point after 6 rounds of flying. Many of our public visitors expressed how much they had enjoyed their day. Podium, see photographs. Link to detailed results here: http://www.gbrcaa.org/smf/index.php?topic=4866.msg27827#msg27827

Alfreton - 7th January 2017

Alfreton - 7th January 2017

Contest Director: Matthew Hoyland Venue: Alfreton Sports Centre - organised by: John Day Computer scoring: Matt Hoyland, Helen Granger. FAI Judges: Garry Peacock, Eugene Anker, Ashley Hoyland. Judges: Garry Oliver, Adam Lomax, Liam Clayton, Connor Stephenson, Steve Schafer. Our first BMFA Team Selection competition of the 2016/2017 season was well attended with good competition in all schedules (except the 'B+') giving everyone some good competition practice before the Electric Indoor Masters next weekend. In the BMFA Team Selection 'AP' & 'AF' schedules the top three places were separated by just 14 points after 6 rounds. For me the difference was between pilots was lazy centres and variation in speed through the manoeuvres, but the flying was to a high standard. In 'B' Luke Oliver consolidated his place at the top of the league winning each round but Paul and John are not for behind. In 'C' Alan and I battled it out for 2nd and 3rd places as Rory was quick to learn after the first two rounds and beat us both to first place, well done Rory. A Special thank you to Garry and Eugene for judging this competition and to Nicolas Bleas our new judge for the EIM, all had travelled many miles North to be at the competition. Also to Garry Oliver who judged at his first F3P competition. We could not hold these competitions without your help or indeed the enthusiasm of our F3P pilots who put in a tremendous effort to fly at this level and are prepared to travel many miles. Ashley
