CD: Clive Whitwood FAI Judges: Clive Whitwood, Mel Garlick. Score recorder:Jane Garlick. Hosts: Ramsey Model Aeroplane Flying Club. Podium: FAI P11: 1st Keith Jackson, 2nd Brandon Ransley, 3rd Mike Williams. Masters: 1st Shahis Bangawala, 2nd Mark Pearce. Intermediate: 1st John Langridge, 2nd Gavin Garlick. Clubman: Nigel Smith Moving to August was not really a good idea as many people seem to be on holiday still, despite the usual attrition, ten plots braved the strong winds to give a very interesting competition. Five fliers in FAI class flying the P11 schedule showed how to compensate for the 45 degree crosswind blowing in. It was expected that this would be a three way tussle between Keith Jackson, Brandon Ransley and Mike Williams however George Drever gave Mike a good run for his money using a model borrowed from a very brave and generous Bill Michie after damaging his own models u/c on his first round landing. Watching these excellent fliers compensate so well for the crosswind was a good lesson for us lesser mortals. The final result was a close one two for Keith and Brandon with Mike George and Bill not a million miles behind. In Masters Shahid Banglawala was clear of Mark Pearce despite having a much lighter electric model. It appeared that the best way of dealing with this was to keep the speed up giving reasonable authority in the air. Intermediate pilots John Langridge and Gavin Garlic had much more trouble with the conditions with Johns much improved final round allowing him to pip Gavin for first place. Both achieved promotion scores in the final flight and Gavin in his second round flight also. Nigel Smith flying in Clubman with a very light electric model bravely fought the wind which ended up in the first two rounds with wiping off his U/C and damaging the bottom of the fuselage. Some drastic repair work between rounds enabled him to continue and even gain promotion score on his final flight and a round of applause for his perfect touchdown. I think we will be seeing a lot more of Nigel in the future. My grateful thanks to my fellow Judge Mel Garlick and is wife Jayne for her tireless patience doing all the scoring. Also to Gavin for keeping the comp rolling smoothly slowing me to concentrate on my judging. Next year the comp will be moved back to July when I hope the weather will be more kind. Thanks to all who took part in this year’s competition. Clive Whitwood
