CD: Ashley Hoyland Matt Hoyland. FAI Judges: Peter Brett, Alan Simmonds. Judges for other Schedules: All pilots. It was good to meet Andy and Len from Optifuel who had brought fuel for the top IC pilot in each schedule, Pete Tindall who accompanied Garry, and Steve Underwood who was calling for Richard and promises (or was that a threat) to make a come back next year. Tony Wright of W3MH.co.uk joined us on the Sunday to continue gathering F3A material for his web site. We had promise of 12 entries for this end of season event but unfortunately we were down to 10 for the first day and 9 on the Sunday. This made for a very difficult time to keep the flow for none stop flying through Sunday when 4 1/2 rounds, (40 schedules) were flown. Peter was our only 'Full time' Judge, Alan was flying in Masters and all pilots took their turn to scribe and judge when they were not calling, a busy competition for everyone. Saturday weather promised to be challenging, the forecast was for 52mph gusts in the afternoon. At around 9:30 Matt thought we should just get on with it, and when someone called Richard said he had flown in worse 'we just went for it'. I have never flown at Barkston when the high wind was accompanied by turbulence and gusts that bounced models around so much even in the straight lines. The conditions were deteriorating, at least that was my excuse for going around for my landing and I was last to fly. Conditions just continued on a downward spiral, so around 10:30 we decided we should call it a day and gather at Woody's for lunch and to pick the unknown schedule for FAI next day. So we met at 12:30 for lunch and again at 6:30 for dinner. Ready on the flight line to start at 9:00am Sunday in a cold stiff breeze we completed the first round and 4 further rounds for everyone. 2 x Ps 2 x Fs and 1 unknown for the top 4 pilots. All did extremely well to cope with the conditions on Saturday and the unknown on Sunday. Worth a mention was Gary who flew his first 'F' in competition followed by his first unknown. FAI: First Richard Christopher, Keith Jackson and Matt Hoyland. Masters: Alan Connelly, Alan Simmonds. Advanced: 1st Steve Dunning, Mike Watts, Eddy Scott. Intermediate and Clubman were not flown.
