Introduction to Aerobatics with Experienced Aerobatic Pilots

Ashley Hoyland, John Morton, Kevin Caton, Alan Williams and Andy Shutt.

For any pilot who wishes to improve their flying with an aircraft below 7Kgs that will do a few loops and rolls

First Wednesday in every month (excluding 1st January 2020)

1.    Start time 10am - but electric models can fly unsupervised before this time for familiarisation flights or practice. The aerobatics box will be marked on the runway to aid orientation whilst flying. Make yourself a coffee or tea. (please don't forget the honesty box for donations).

2.      On your first session, from 10am we will meet in the Goldsmith Hanger for about 90 minutes.  We will take you through introductions, the aims of the day, and our programme to introduce you to safer flying. You should be in a position to decide your aims for the future before joining everyone else on the runway to fly.

3.    Around 12:30 we will have a light lunch together in the Goldsmith Hanger which will give everyone the opportunity to ask more questions and discuss the mornings flying.

4.     On pilots subsequent sessions if the weather is suitable, from 10am we will mentor pilots whilst flying, one at a time, to practice their choice of manoeuvres or just flying straight lines.

5.    We will suggest progressing your flying which may take a pilot a little out of their comfort area, but we will never expect too much.

6.    Sessions are usually limited to a maximum of 10 pilots so that everyone gets at least 4 or 5 flights under instruction, however there is no limit to the number of visitors or those attending the presentation.

7.    We hope to develop these sessions to provide enough interest to continue through the winter months if the weather is unsuitable for flying.

Our ultimate aim is to make it second nature to plan every part of your flight before take off and to know that your aircraft is exactly where you want it to be in the sky every second of the flight.  With practice you will have ultimate control of your aircraft.

       None flying subjects may be:-

1.      Transmitter and servo - initial set up to get the best from your model.

2.      We will discuss basic aerodynamics and trimming from initial set up through to flying accurate aerobatic manoeuvres.

3.      Bring your model for advice. We could set up your model for flight and check for any safety issues.

4.      Test flying your model (at owners risk) to advise on basic setup and advise what changes should be made – we have both Mode I and Mode II pilots.

5.      For those interested in competition flying – discuss the judge’s presentation of manoeuvres to know what to aim for.

6.      Look at simulator instruction for the more complicated manoeuvres.
