just to make sure I bore everyone to death, having read Malcolm's article a couple of time now, it would seem that I need to aim for a mid point of 70% rpm. My max rpm is about 8100, so it should be around 5670. With no expo, i.e a straight line mine shows 5560!! I have checked my esc settings and it is set to linear. So now I am really confused, at mid throttle -50% it should be 4050. AARRGH.

Just to record my thanks for all the replies. After studying the article and finally understanding the relationship between revs and power and how the throttle curve affects the two, i have adjusted my curve and now feel much more comfortable in controlling the aircraft's speed and in applyimg the power smoothly and at the right time. Lots still to do but now i have good starting point.
 Thanks again
