Title: Training Days in 2020
Post by: Kevin Caton on 14, December 2019, 01:08:05 pm
Building on the successful Introduction to Aerobatics sessions held each month at BMFA Buckminster, we have the opportunity to use the site for more aerobatics training. I propose to hold six training days in 2020, open to all but with the aim of improving manoeuvre geometry and positioning. With enough participants we should be able to spend time on assessing positioning on the 150m line, keeping wings level, getting angles correct etc., by having spotters at the relevant positions at the box ends and behind the pilot. This doesn't require new skills - we can all benefit from another pair of eyes on our plane, with attention on just one aspect of the flight, such as "are the wings level?", seeing things that as pilots and callers we can easily miss. I see these as self-help sessions - you can call it coaching or training if you like.

Buckminster is a busy site, so we can only hold these on Wednesdays, which I know isn't ideal for those who work during the week. I hope we can find enough keen pilots who can maybe flex their work schedule occasionally to attend. I propose six dates in 2020 - 15th April, 20th May, 10th June, 15th July, 12th August and 16th September.

Before I make any bookings of the site, I'd like to gauge the level of interest and see what people think of the concept. Naturally any suggestions on content for the days would be welcome. I should add that if the weather isn't flyable, we can use the hangar facilities to discuss trimming, model set up, look at manoeuvre geometry in the classroom, etc.

Over to you folks - what do you think?

Hi Kevin - if I'm fit enough to enter a couple of comps. in 2020 I'd also be interested in a couple of these training sessions. 20 May and 10 June would be OK for me.

Hi Kevin
You can count me in for whenever I am in the UK which I hope will be quite a few of them.
Brilliant idea by the way. I already benefit when attending the ita days to assist. Lots of us are forced to practise alone and this will be a real benefit

Great idea and like Adrian placed the dates on the calendar.

Happy to help out as a spotter on the days that I can get there 👍

Best regards

Excellent idea Kevin and would be very happy to support whenever I can. I'll be at work most of those dates but hopefully could make at least the July or August one.
Best wishes
Gerhard

Great proposal Kevin.  Will have to see how things pan out but I am interested in getting some help with my flying.  I hope I'll be able to make at least a couple of those dates.

I have confirmed five training dates at Buckminster - though some have had to be moved due to conflicting bookings.

The dates are:

Thursday 14th May
Wednesday 10th June
Wednesday 29th July
Wednesday 12th August
Wednesday 16th September

There will be a cost to attend, which is to cover the daily flying fee at Buckminster, but it shouldn't be prohibitively expensive in relation to the value we will all get from a day of concentrated practice.

Please let me know if you want to attend any of these events, then I can make the arrangements with Manny at Buckminster.

Hi Richard - these are in addition to the Intro to Aerobatics sessions. They are aimed at the next level, so we will be looking at baseline height & depth, manoeuvre shapes etc. Having said that, I just want to get the sessions going and see what the attendees want.

Booking is through me at kevin.caton@btinternet.com and so will coordinate access to Buckminster with Manny.

Regards

Hi,
Only just saw your post.

Whilst I will be away in France for a lot of the period concerned, I might be able to attend 1 or 2 of the sessions. May I mail you to check nearer the time if any that I can make please?
Best regards
Richard

The first training day scheduled for 14th May is now fully booked with twelve pilots registered.

Thanks for the great support!

The cost for the day will be £8 which is the Buckminster daily site fee. We have the option of organising a “sandwich, crisps, cake and fruit” lunch platter for all at a cost of £7 per head. The advantage of doing this is that it gives us a chance to convene in the hangar during the lunch break to discuss the morning’s flying and adjust the plans for the afternoon if required. Equally, we can do this if people want to bring their own lunch. Hot drinks are available for an appropriate donation. Please let me know you preferences for what you want to do. Naturally with the current Covid-19 situation we may be subject to changes or restrictions and I will keep you informed here.

Thanks for arranging these days.

Most of you will be aware that BMFA Buckminster has been closed for a period of 12 weeks from this week. Accordingly the Training Days scheduled for April, May & June are cancelled.

I will give an update here as soon as I have any more information about when we may be able to start flying again.
