Have used digital throttle trim since Fut Tx's came so equipped & experienced few problems - but when I switched to YS I found I was always having to adjust tickover every start up; only by small amounts nevertheless in spite of eliminating all possible slop. I could always adjust it of course, but there is still no visible reference point on a digital trim. On landing, clicking several clicks lower & using throttle cut on finals.....
I have now tried assigning & using the left hand slider on the Tx for throttle trim & found it much better(at least on mode 1) as follows:
Starting: Centre position has a beep - so start on the 'beep' or full high trim.
Tickover: move trim to centre (beep)  - this is slightly higher than required t/o. Carry model out & finalise t/o before take off.
Landing approach: move trim to centre 'beep' (fast t/o) for safety.
Finals: gradually move trim to low as required. Easy to do on the slider - since you don't need to let go of anything else. This slows model a treat, no need for throttle cut & you have a much better chance of hitting the 'spot'. Move trim to low will produce ultra low t/o & maximum braking effect.
It may sound complicated but its very easy, plus you always have the reassuring reference mid point beep. Plus avoiding throttle cut means you get a genuine prop-braking affect, rather than the model speeding up on finals. I like it! Some might say its too easy to move the slider accidentally, but I've not found that to be the case & there is always the reference beep if you think you have.

Tom,
Only winding you up! - congrats on your new PPL - but I've heard full size is no where near not as good as modelling. Don't try a 4 point in the 172. ( at least not over Mansfield)
