Myvec build thread. New project for 2018
« on: 25, January 2018, 12:38:57 am »
Going to do a bit of a thread on my new project for this year. I drew it up autumn last year but a new baby arrived in october so been a bit too busy to get it started.
However, baby no.2 is behaving itself so i thought id have a go at getting this thing flying!

Having flown a Spark (with Dave Snow wings) the back end of last season, i really liked the way it performed so decided to loosely base this design on the Spark. I also like the Agenda/Element/Invitation/Essence models so a bit of those designs feature too. Mainly fuz depth! Dont know if its as deep but pretty close.
Everything is pretty conventional (is an all wood f3a model conventional), no all moving tail, no retracts!! And 1 wing.
I'll be using the same contra unit that les does his o/d.

It'll all be real time aswell, i got the cnc parts today and started putting it together tonight. Havent got the sheeting yet, 50 sheets of contest 3/32 on order with Balsacabin.

Wood selection as always is going to be important, the fuz is big and will take a lot of sheeting!

Dont know how i got the name Myvec but thats what its called.....at the moment ;D

Anyway, heres some photos....

It's difficult to find time for building but i'm slowly progressing. I had a good day yesterday and managed to attach the underside sheeting on both wings.

'Id love to learn 3d, one day maybe'

Same here! but you can't teach an old dog new tricks (in my case that is) - still using my old Dos program - Drafix. Fantastic program for its day. I use Turbocad & others just for conversion of file types from Drafix. Handily Drafix will produce a HP .plt file which I use to drive my cnc machine.
I've tried to learn 3d but, unless you have an everyday use for it - you then have to relearn again a month later. In my case -not worth it.

Yes i agree. Even in 2d, not doing it everyday makes me a bit rusty!
I need to retrain as a cad engineer  :)

Bit more done last night. Its very fiddily and delicate at this stage but pretty close to sheeting now.
I pinned the bottom decking on just to see what it looks like, its pretty big. Ill remove this and pin it to the board to sheet it.
Its hard to see in the pics but on the rear half of the fuz on the bottom is a removable keel. Will be interesting to see how it effects the flying- if at all.

Cracking on with the sheeting at the moment, fairly straight forward apart from the front which will need to be planked. Dont like planking  :(

Finished the top front planking, what a pain. It turned out ok ish, bit of filler here and there it'll be ok.
Got on with fin today, big thanks to Adrian M for his tutorial in his Lepton build thread, worked a treat. Heres some pictures.

Up on its legs now, its getting big. Nearly finished the sheeting underneath, next big job is cutting the canopy out, not looking forward to it!
