Attention: GBRCAA Members

Please don't forget there is a Members Only Forum. To gain access to it, you just need to make sure you fill in your full name in your profile and then PM either me or Mee (John Mee) and we will switch it on.

Only current members need apply.

Best Regards

Has something happened to the members only forum?  I had access last week, but now can't see it any more?

No problem with the members forum Nick - just that you have been taken off it.

You must have changed your profile as it no longer gives your full name. Having an identity crisis?

Yes!

I changed it once I had access, didn't think that would be a problem.  I don't like having my full name on general display on the internet as it is such a unique name (I'm the only Nick S... in this country) I am incredibly easy to trace.

I don't mind using my full name as my log in, and I don't mind the GBRCAA members knowing it (though most know me now anyway) but I'm not happy having it on general display.

Sorry Nick, but we made the rule that everyone on the Members Only forum should be clearly identifiable for good reasons and it was agreed at the last AGM; we can't start making exceptions now.

Unfortunately, the software does not allow the use of different names in different forums.

Alan

Over the next few days a review of those who have access to the 'Members Only' part of the GBR/CAA forum is going to take place to ensure that only fully paid up GBR/CAA members for the 2012 /13 season (which runs from April 1st 2012 to 31st March 2013) have access.

If you wish to retain access to the members area of the forum, then please feel free to renew your membership for the forthcoming 2013/14 season and once payment is received this will be reinstated immediately.

If you find that you have had your access removed and you are a fully paid up member for the 2012/13 season then please PM or email at treasurer@gbrcaa.org and I will review our membership listing and update accordingly.

Finally, there are some paid up members that have not been given access, so this will also be corrected during this review (as long as your 'profile name' is your full name).

Thanks

Way to go boy's!

I always feel that it's nice to be able to read and keep abreast of how associations like this are being planned and run ahead of perhaps re-joining as a previous member, and quite active at that!

Will locking down Rm101 help to increase a dwindling membership and encourage returnees? I think not, but I suppose thats just my opinion. I will say though that prior to this most recent 'sensorship' I had almost been tempted, but am now left feeling some what unsure. The basic forum is great at giving outsiders a sneak peak at certain elements such as can be seen quite readily, but offers nothing to those who would like to make an informed opinion on how they would be 'managed' as a member.

Jury's out for me at the moment

This has been a matter of debate for many years on this forum about having the full name displayed and I kind of see the views that it should be on display, but equally and in this day and age why should it be?!
To be in the members section of this site you have to be a member of the GBR,, therfore the GBR have your full name, email adress and possibly home address too, so to grant access to the members only part why is this not enough?   I know its a 'rule' but why.  It makes no sense at all, why not be happy with say 'First name followed by membership number'  Im sure that most people who dont go to the member section and contribute because they dont want the full name on display will be more than happy to have a number thats only relivant to the gbr on display with the name?

This is also another cause for concern, I ask any member of the Gbr who has flown in a comp and recieved a trophy or cert to type your name into google, click images and im safe to safe 80% of members will find a photo of yourself at the comp, with your full name on display on the first page of Google images!
Now we all have an option to 'opt out' of having our full name on display in the forum which is fine,  but its no 'protection' to those who dont want to be traced back to the site.
Even the underground 'Mansfield Mafia' get a google first image result!  :o

Now we have to be careful here not to brew up a storm in a tea cup, as the guys who run the site put in an awful lot of hard work behind the scenes and although its a huge task for Ashley to rename pictures if requested (and he is a nice guy im sure he would if asked  ;) )
maybe in future any pictures uploaded to this site should only have first names unless consent is given?   Keeps everybody happy then,,,,,  nearly  ;D

My goodness Tom, you are right!  I needed to be a bit more specific than just my name (a picture of Mr Ahmedinajad was included!) but if I added F3A at the end of my name up came one image of Charles Smitheman and me and one of my GBR/CAA avatar.  Charles's name, however, generated many more images - what it is to be famous!

I don't know if this is a problem or not but at least I now know that it is a possibility.  I suppose it would make you a little bit more open to identity theft but then again we give our details to so many people these days and then find that much more than a photo and name has been compromised.  Isn't this one of those unintended consequences of today's technology that we have either to live with or not dip our toe into the water at all!

As far as I'm concerned, it is nice to know with whom I am debating on the forum and that is not always the case.  Of course, with time, you get to know who is the real person behind some strange name - just at you do with the RCU forum.  So, I think that in the end it will all come down to you being recognised one way or another.  In my view, it then becomes an issue of either joining a forum or not.  That is one reason why I will not join Facebook.

My pen'orth.
