P13 Schedule only: Shlomi Chester. SebArt Wind S Pro. Superb trophies befitting the event were supplied by RCM&E and we would like to thank them sincerely, along with all our sponsors: Areobertics.com, Fast Lad Performance, Electricwingman, Optifuel/Optipower and Plettenberg for their support. The advance party arrived on site Tuesday to find our host cutting our runway. The weather forecast was not good but if correct we should have a good days flying on the Saturday and probably Sunday. After preparing the flight box and roping off on Wednesday thanks to Adrian and Bill Mansell, Ken Moss and Brian Hoare we were ready to greet our guests for practice on Thursday. Making a early start we were able to fly 13 practice schedules before the rain set in for the day. Friday proved to be as the forecast and at the pilots briefing at 7:30am, a majority decision was to cancel all flying for the day. This proved to be right decision with very rain showers and the wind staying above the FAI limit all day. Our thoughts were "how can this change for tomorrow”, but it did with two full rounds of the P13 schedule completed before many enjoyed the get together through the evening at the Holiday Inn Ashford. The wind was around 12/15 mph blowing out from over the pilots left shoulder most of the day. Sunday was better with lighter winds and warm periods. We should congratulate Loic Burbaud for a superb weekends flying winning all three rounds, and the order was established in the first round with Kevin Caton and Matt Hoyland flying well and maintaining their positions. We saw innovative propellers from the German team and a very complicated all moving vertical flying/control surfaces and tail vectoring on Peter Hasse's Progress 3. There were in fact just about as bigger range of models being flown I think I have seen at one competition. Our longest travelled competitor was Shlomi Chester from Israel who won the P13 only competition and flew the F13 for the judges warm-up flight. A special mention for Val Gascoyne and Marie Lomax standing n at the last minute to cater for all through Saturday and Sunday, and of course to Marie for selling raffle tickets. We thank Rob Davies for his welcome, allowing us to use his airfield, presenting the trophies and for his spirited flying display in his original Stearman PT17, and of course to Mike Williams for stirring the Woodchurch air with his 2.6 metre Sukhoi. We had good weather on Sunday but as I was packing away the last bits of equipment around 3.30pm the rain started to fall and it continued pretty much solidly until I left the site on Monday morning. We were indeed fortunate. Ashley

South Elmsall - 5th February 2012

CD: Matt Hoyland Judges: All pilots. Score recorder: Steve Hunt. Podium: 'C' Schedule: 1st, Paul Wilcockson and 2012 'C' league winner. 2nd, Brian Holford. 3rd, Mark Barnes. 'B' Schedule: 1st Gary Holland and 2012 'B' league winner. 2nd, Shahid Banglawala. 3rd, Neal Shead. 'A Schedule: 1st Connor Stephenson and 2012 'A' league winner. 2nd, Adam Lomax. 3rd, Matt Hoyland. It was a wintery weekend. Some of us were looking at the snow falling on Saturday evening wondering what time we needed to rise on Sunday morning to dig out the cars, whilst others had already travelled from the South coast and Wales to get some practice in before the competition. Sunday started with an early get away to head for Elmswell and progress was so good we had time for breakfast on the way. We were a little late starting due to the hall not being available at 9am but once inside we soon made all the preparations and the pilots briefing set everyone up for a good days competition. Pilots agreed to judge the 75 schedules flown by the 15 pilots. Thanks to all the scribes who sat in to accompany the judging panels. The standard of flying was good with everyone showing improvement, confirmed by the fact I only went behind the safety line once, but seriously competition flying and the incentive to practice is starting to show through. It was good to welcome several visitors which must indicate lots of interest and a promise that the F3P competition scene will grow. Although the start was delayed a short while the efficient way everyone prepared for their flights and sat in the judges chairs without delay meant we were able to have the 5 planned rounds, (round 1 and 2 were flown in succession as were round 3 and 4 with a single round 5 to finish), hold the presentations and clear up before the venue closed. Thank you to all for a super first season and the comments on the forum confirm everyone else thought the same. Ashley

South Elmsall - 8th January 2012

CD: Matt Hoyland Judges: Peter Cappleman, Steve Dunning. Flyer judges: Andy Whitehead, Adam Lomax, Dave Kirk. Score recorder: Steve Hunt. We would like to thank or competition sponsors for their generous support. Horizon Hobbies for the Beast, Taxi and Gee Bee Racer for first place in each schedule. Flying Dog for second prizes of carbon accessories, and MyHobbyStore Media for third prizes of yearly subscriptions to their RCM&E magazine. Fourteen pilots with helpers and supporters gathered at the first GBRCAA F3P league competition at the Sports Centre Minsthorpe, South Elmsall. It was good to see some visitors giving their support. These competitions would probably not have happened if it had not been for Andy Whitehead’s enthusiasm to hold the EIM at Bradford over the last three years. This is the first GBRCAA competition which we hope will be repeated and in the future with similar competitions run to the same rules spreading around the country to establish a healthy league table. I would also like to thank Optipower and Electricwingman for sponsoring our league trophies. Five rounds were flown by all pilots but rounds one and two were combined to save time(as were round 3 and 4). After each schedule models was landed, to get landing points and for each pilot to compose themselves before taking off for the second schedule. Each schedule was scored separately. There was good competition in each schedule and generally the flying was to a high standard. It was obvious a lot of practice had preceded the event and only one pilot couldn’t decide which way the wind was blowing. The hall is only available on Sunday between the hours of 9:00am and 2:00pm so some slick organisation helped to make it a relaxing day with the maximum schedules being flown. Our finishing time also gave our ‘long distance’ competitors time to get home at a reasonable time.
